Serving in the Kingdom

Is God Calling You to Serve?

The greatest discovery I have ever made concerning how to know the will of God involves the following:

  • Fully surrendering my life to the Lordship of Christ
  • Living a life of obedience in the power of the Holy Spirit
  • Maintaining my first love for our Lord

Before you can serve you need to Know Him and Experience His Power.

God wants you to serve.

Inside the Church
"Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers" (Galatians 6:10). God wants us to serve others.

Out in the world
In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus says, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Jesus commands us to go out in the world.

How will you respond to His call to serve?

God has gifted you to serve.

You are gifted
"Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us." (Romans 12:4-6a).

You are called
The Bible says that God has gifted every Christian for service regardless of your job or career. The calling of God is not just for pastors or missionaries it is for everyone. We are all called to serve God 24/7 by building His kingdom.

No matter what stage of life you're in or what your past is, God can use you.

Will you answer God's call and use the gifts that God has given you?

People need to serve

Serve others
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others . . .” (1 Peter 4:10).

Your experience can help others
“He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us” (2 Corinthians 1:4, NLT).
God allows experience in your life so you can help others.

The following explains how you can serve.

Where will you serve? Will you be obedient to what God has called you to do?

Opportunities to serve
There are numerous areas in which you can serve both inside the church and with other Christian organizations. Opportunities exist in the areas of: Compassion Ministry, Evangelism, Marriage & Family Ministries, Men's Ministry, Women's Ministry, Worship Arts, Young Adults, Youth or Children's Ministry.

If you are not sure where the Lord wants you to serve, you could begin by praying that the Lord would lead you, perhaps like this:

"Lord Jesus, here I am, send me. I will go anywhere You want me to go, do anything You want me to do, say anything You want me to say, and give up anything You want me to give up. I want to help reach our world for You. I sincerely believe that this is Your will for my life. Thank You for being my adequacy and my strength. Amen."

In addition to praying, a great place to start serving would be in an area you are passionate about or in which you have specific training, talents, or gifts.
